CHANDRASHEKHAR HAD STUDIED AT A REPUTED PRIVATE SCHOOL IN BANGALORE TILL HIS ARREST IN A CHEATING CASE WHEN HE WAS 17

At 28, Sukesh Chandrashekhar alias Balaji has led more than 10 years of his life as a conman.

Arrested at least 4 times for cheating and siphoning off funds, Chandrashekhar was arrested by the Delhi police team from a five star hotel in south Delhi. He had fixed a deal with TTV Dinakaran, AIADMK’s deputy general secretary and promised to get the disputed ‘ two-leaf symbol’ for his faction for a sum of ₹50 crore.

The Delhi police team seized ₹1.30 crore from his hotel room along with two luxury cars – a BMW 7 series and a Mercedes S class car. The cars are registered with the Haryana and Rajasthan transport authority. One of the cars had a sticker, which showed that the car belonged to a Member of Parliament.

A cursory reading of his history shows why even a seasoned politician like Dinakaran could not resist his charms or see through his web of deceit.

This 10th standard dropout, who speaks seven languages fluently, first hit headlines in May 2013 when his then girlfriend and south Indian actor Leena Maria Paul was arrested at their sprawling farmhouse in Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri.

The Delhi and Chennai police, who conducted the joint operation, were aghast at their wealth which included not just the massive farmhouse but also a fleet of luxury cars, estimated to be worth ₹20 crore .

They had been accused of cheating a Chennai bank of ₹19 crore.

Chandrashekhar had studied at a reputed private school in Bangalore till his arrest in a cheating case when he was 17. In 2007, he had conned a family friend to the tune of ₹1.5 crore.

The son of a retired bank employee, Sukesh has over 100 cases registered against him for impersonation and cheating in Hyderabad, Bengaluru as well as Chennai.

“We will probe if he knows any EC officials who were willing to swing the symbol verdict in his favour. He claimed that he knew Dinakaran for the last 4 years. A part of the promised ₹50 crore was transferred in white. It also appears that a Chandni Chowk based Hawala trader was transferring the money. We will also give a report to the ED about the money,” said a senior officer.
