26-year-old meat supplier was allegedly robbed and then shot in the leg when he tried to resist the bid by four unidentified men in northwest Delhi’s Bindapur area on Sunday night.

Mohammad Akram was on his way home with his friend Shahid, when he was attacked by the four men. According to the police, one of the accused first threw chili powder in Akram’s eyes and then snatched his bag that had Rs 1 lakh cash. When Akram tried to resist the bid, one of them took out a pistol and shoot him in his leg. The accused allegedly pushed Shahid as well and then fled the spot.

The episode, police said, has been recorded in a CCTV camera installed in the area. “The footage shows that the four men, all wearing kurtas and skull caps, were waiting for Akram and Shahid in the deserted lane. It appears that they knew the men would cross the area and were standing there with an intention to rob them. The footage shows that the moment, Shahid and Akram reach the area, the men get up and stop them. They footage also shows the men directing each other to take positions as they see the duo approaching,” a senior police officer said. The CCTV cameras recorded the men stopping the duo, throwing chili powder in their eyes and then shooting one of them in the leg before fleeing.

Police suspect that the men knew Akram and Shahid and the two parties had a dispute over some payment.

“It appears that both parties knew each other as in the footage we can see that they had an argument following which the accused threw chili powder at him. We suspect that there was some dispute over money,” a senior police officer said.
