The result of the municipal election 2017 will be declared on Wednesday. About 54% of all eligible voters turned out to vote on April 23.

Before the choice made by Delhi becomes clear, here are things to know about the counting process that starts early on Wednesday.

The counting votes polled in 270 wards will start at 8 am on Wednesday. Polling in two other wards — Sarai Pipal Thala and Maujpur — was put off till next month after death of two candidates. As per DSEC officials, though the result will be declared by the state election commission only after 5 pm, early trends should be available by 11 am.

The winner, if there is no fractured mandate, should be clear by 2 pm.

The counting updates will be relayed from the centres to the DSEC office located in Kashmere Gate. Large screens installed there will display the updates for the media to disseminate to the public.

According to the Delhi State Election Commission, the final voter turnout was 53.58%, with 54.04% turnout among men and 53.02% turnout among women. A total of 71,39,994 voters participated in the electoral process. The percentage was little more than 2012 Municipal election when 53.23% voters took park in elections.

Among the three corporations, the highest turnout was for the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (56.08%), followed by 54.08% for South Delhi Municipal Corporation and 51.59% for North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
