Maoist brutality of the South Sukma attack on Monday afternoon has left security personnel enraged. It was black day for the CRPF.

The violence reportedly included assaults on the private parts of the slain security personnel by sharp-edged weapons.

“There are indications that the act took place but it can only be confirmed after the postmortem report,” said the DIG Dantewada, DP Updhayay while speaking to HT.

Some security personnel who rushed to the spot just after the incident said that they saw several mutilated bodies while they were evacuating the injured.

“I have seen the bodies ..They were mutilated and Maoists have also assaulted private parts of security personnel,” said a senior level COBRA officer who among the first to reach the spot.

The encounter, which lasted for more than three hours, took place just a kilometer from the CRPF camp.

A senior CRPFofficer said that since the attackers were using villagers as human shields the party, which was trapped, got isolated for more than an hour.

“They were in black and olive green uniform and even in civilian clothes hence it was not easy to recognize them during the encounter ..They took advantage of this and managed to break our defense,” he said.

Police have started quizzing some of villagers of Burkapal and gathering information.

“We were inside our house when the encounter started . We heard firing and when we came out of the house security personnel were everywhere,” said Gogi Bai, a resident of village.

A total of 15 CRPF companies are deployed in this area in 11 camps across the 56-km stretch of road under construction.

“From 2014 to 2017, a total of 11 encounters have taken place on this road, in which seven security personnel were killed and 25 were injured. This is biggest attack which is carried out by Maoists on a road opening party,” said a police officer.
