Private varsity student raped near Buddh racing circuit

A 21-year-old student of a private university was allegedly raped by her friend on Tuesday afternoon at an isolated area near Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida.

A case of rape has been registered at Dankaur police station. No arrest has been made so far. Police said the assault took place around 12.40pm, after the accused, Arjun Bhati, 25, offered a ride to the woman in his Scorpio outside the university.

Police said the woman lives in Janakpuri, Delhi.

Police said the woman agreed to ride with Bhati because she did not have any conveyance to reach a bus stop near Galgotia University from where she could get a bus to Delhi. The woman knows Bhati.

The victim sat in the rear with Bhati, while one of his friends drove the vehicle and another sat in the front. On reaching the bus stop, the driver started speeding. The woman said she tried to raise the alarm but found the windows centrally locked. Police said she was taken to an isolated area near Buddh International Circuit and Bhati allegedly raped her.

According the police complaint, Bhati allegedly raised the music volume in the vehicle and asked his friends to keep watch, the woman alleged.

The woman, who is pursuing an honours in Economics, told police that the glasses of the car were tinted. After the incident, Bhati a resident of Murshadpur in Greater Noida, dropped the woman at the bus stop.

The woman called a friend and sought his help. “My friend called other friends of mine and also alerted the women’s helpline. Soon, a police team came to the spot and I told them of my ordeal.”

An investigation officer said they couldnt’ find the accused in his house in Murshadpur. The officer said that the phones of the accused have been put on surveillance.

The woman said she met Bhati at the university last November and he had proposed to her. The two were in touch ever since.
