COURT SENDS DINAKARAN TO POLICE CUSTODY
A Delhi court sent AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran to five-day police custody in an Election Commission bribery case on Wednesday.
Dinakaran was produced in the court amid high security. At least 15 police officials came to the court with him and cordoned off the gallery outside the court room. The 45-minute proceeding was not open to mediapersons, who were asked to leave the courtroom after the accused were brought in.
Dinakaran’s friend Mallikarjuna has also been remanded to police custody for five days.
Lawyers who were present in the courtroom said the police had sought seven-day custody of the accused.
However, this was opposed by the counsel appearing for Dinakaran, who stated that the accused has been joining investigation for the past four days and the police has not produced any material as to why his grilling in custody was required.
