Stalin slams BJP for misusing central agencies for own benefit

DMK working president and Opposition leader MK Stalin accused the BJP-led central government on Sunday of misusing central investigating agencies for political benefit of the party.

“PM Narendra Modi should put an end to the selective usage of agencies like the IT dept, ED and the CBI, which are being used for the political benefit of the BJP,” Stalin said adding that the central government’s purported fight against corruption does not inspire confidence.

“In a desperate bid to rapidly gain foothold in Tamil Nadu, the BJP government is using tactics like raiding sitting state ministers and intimidating IAS officers to the extent that they have totally paralysed the state government,” he said.

“Union ministers had called on Jayalalithaa after she was convicted. The same central government is showing great interest in anti-corruption activities as if they have increased only after her death,” Stalin said in a video clip. “Selective raids and selective arrests” have brought the administration to a halt, Stalin alleged adding that the BJP is trying to expand its base while destabilising the government.

“If the BJP government was really serious in its fight against corruption, it should arrest all the ministers based on the raids conducted and evidence collected by the IT department,” he demanded.

The BJP, however, rubbished Stalin’s claims and said the party would grow in Tamil Nadu on its own political strength. Union minister of state for highways and ports, Pon Radhakrishnan said the time was ripe for the BJP to expand on its own.
