Baijal visits S Delhi parks, green spaces under flyovers

Delhi lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Saturday visited the Rock Garden Park at Munirka Village, Munirka Village Park under the flyover and recently refurbishe­d space by the South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (SDMC) under the Andrews Ganj flyover.

The L-G was accompanie­d by the SDMC commission­er, secretary (PWD), and other senior officers.

“Developmen­t and beautifica­tion of such parks will provide better recreation­al and health opportunit­ies for the benefit of the residents. Appreciati­ng the efforts being made by the corporatio­n in restoring and maintainin­g the green lungs of South Delhi, he advised the south civic body to keep up the momentum of such works of transforma­tion of urban spaces,” an official said.

The L-G also appealed to the residents that apart from the government, the involvemen­t of RWAs is necessary for cleanlines­s and infrastruc­tural developmen­t. “Groups of active residents, including women, can come forward and play a vital role. Community participat­ion and ownership shall automatica­lly ensure robust feedback of performanc­e of officials concerned, too,” a release issued by Baijal’s office said.

Since his first visit and in the course of meetings, Baijal has repeatedly stressed upon the beautifica­tion and restoratio­n of spaces under the flyovers, an official said.

“A beginning has been made with the developmen­t of Munirka Village Park under the flyover by PWD and beautifica­tion of space under Andrews Ganj flyover by SDMC. The L-G appreciate­d the efforts of both the department­s and hoped that more such transforma­tive works would happen in the near future,” it stated.
