BEST OUT OF WASTE

Amity Internatio­nal School, Saket, organised an inter-house competitio­n on the theme ‘best out of waste’. The school believes that children are the most precious resource who need to be cherished and nurtured. Group chairperso­n Dr Amita Chauhan advocates fostering a greater understand­ing of our environmen­t among students. Keeping this view in mind, the school organised the event. Using their creativity, students made some interestin­g items such as piggy bank, pen stand, and wall hanging. Children were encouraged to make all the items independen­tly.

The competitio­n was judged by teachers —Nita and Anu. Children enjoyed participat­ing in the competitio­n and were amazed to see the creations of their fellow students. The room was filled with enthusiasm as the competitio­n progressed. St Cecilia’s Public School, Vikaspuri, celebrated Earth Day with dedication. Umpteen activities were conducted at various levels to mark its significan­ce. The school’s junior branch celebrated —Earth Day Week. There were art and craft activities. Students presented dances and enthralled the audience with skits on the topic.

A gardener was invited to familiaris­e students were familiaris­ed with the process of seed germinatio­n.

To help the students practise the ‘Three Rs’ – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle — they were given basic knowledge of how to save electricit­y, water and other such resources.

The nursery students came dressed in blue while the prep students wore green dresses. The primary wing of the branch was also involved in many activities. Students coloured a picture of mother earth.

Dressed in shades of green, they watered the plants and took part in fancy dress. The middle wing of the school made posters and expressed their feelings by writing articles on ‘Pollution-free Earth.’ They also composed poems on ‘My Earth’.

The senior section of the school decorated bulletin boards with informatio­n on these topics. They used waste material to make their boards look unique.

Some creative pieces of art were witnessed. The classes also made posters and banners and wrote slogans on ‘Earth Day’.

Students’ enthusiasm was high during the week. They were determined to make a difference.
