The legal cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi has filed a petition before Delhi Lokayukta Justice Reva Khetrapal, seeking inquiry into the bribery allegations levelled by Kapil Mishra against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and PWD minister Satyendar Jain.

The petition, filed by the party’s legal team member Neeraj, an advocate, says both public functionaries have ‘abused their positions to obtain any gain or favour to themselves’. To support their allegations, the applicant relied on media reports.

“It is further submitted that till the time of filing this complaint, no clarification has come from Arvind Kejriwal or from Satyendar Jain regarding the transaction of ₹2 crore in cash,” said the petition, which is likely to come up for hearing on May 11.

A day after his removal from the cabinet, Mishra, former water minister, had alleged that “he saw Jain giving ₹2 crore to CM Kejriwal at his residence on Friday.” Mishra alleged that Jain had told him that he had settled a land deal for Kejriwal’s relative for ₹50 crore.

A press statement issued by the Delhi BJP Delhi said the petition had been filed by the legal cell on the directions of its chief Manoj Tiwari.

On Monday, a delegation of BJP MLAs led by leader of opposition Vijender Gupta met Delhi L-G Anil Baijal, urging him to take action against Delhi government over allegations of “corruption”. Gupta said both former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit and Kejriwal are responsible for the ₹400-crore water tanker scam.

“Kejriwal was apprised of the irregularities on August 28, 2015. But he chose to maintain a no-action policy for more than a year. The guilty firms have not been blacklisted. As a result, a loss of ₹6 crore per month continues for the exchequer,” the delegation said in its submission.

The delegation said Baijal should advise the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) and CBI to expedite the corruption case. “It must be ensured that due to political inaction, the governance should not suffer,” it said.

Delhi BJP’s media incharge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the youth wing of the party will protest at Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
