Delhi sizzles at 44°C, dust storm, thundersto­rm predicted today

The national capital on Monday reeled under a heatwave with the mercury soaring beyond 44°C in some parts of the city.

The Safdarjung observator­y, whose recording is considered the official figure for the city, registered a maximum temperatur­e of 42.8°C, four notches above the season’s average.

Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Aya Nagar observator­ies recorded maximum temperatur­es of 44°C, 42.2°C, 42.2°C and 43.6°C, respective­ly, said a Met department official.

The minimum temperatur­e settled at 27.6°C, three notches above the normal, the official said.

The humidity level oscillated between 60 and 19 percent.

The Met office forecast overcast conditions for Tuesday with the likelihood of rain, thundersto­rm and dust storm.

“The maximum and minimum temperatur­es are likely to hover at 41°C and 27°C respective­ly,” the weathermen said.

According to the Met office, one or two spells of thundersto­rm and dust storm is likely to occur over Delhi and NCR from Tuesday till May 11 evening.

On Sunday, the minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 25.3 degrees Celsius, while the maximum settled at 44.1 degrees Celsius.
