Gangster arrested for murdering lover
A 33-year-old alleged gangster involved in murder, attempt to murder, extortion and other crimes was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his live-in partner, police said.
The arrested man, Kuldeep Thakur, was involved in around 20 criminal cases. Thakur allegedly told police he murdered his live-in partner because he suspected her of having relationship with other men.
The naked body of the 39-yearold woman was found at her rented flat in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri Extension near Tilak Nagar on Thursday morning.
The body had multiple injury marks, suggesting she was attacked with a blunt object. Police said she died due to smothering.
Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (west), said Thakur was arrested from his hideout in west Delhi.
“We tracked his location through electronic surveillance. Raids were conducted at Thakur’s possible hideouts across Delhi before we finally nabbed him,” said the DCP.
Around 11.30 am, a woman who runs a tuition center in Thakur’s neighbourhood discovered his live-in partner lying dead in her flat and called the police control room.
A police team arrived and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
“A case was registered and investigation was taken up. During the probe, we learnt that the woman’s live-in partner was missing ever since her body was found in the flat. We collected details about him and it was learnt that he was a gangster with involvement in several serious offences,” an investigator said.
The police learnt that the couple was in a live-in relationship for over two years. The woman had taken divorce from her first husband and entered into a relationship with Thakur, police said.
“Thakur claims that she was cheating on him and was having a relationship with other men as well. He claims he killed her following an argument over the issue,” the officer added.
