Gupta marshalled out, BJP meets EC
The one-day assembly session called by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to rake up the EVM issue started with a heated exchange between leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta and Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
When Gupta refused to be seated and the let the House proceedings begin, Goel called the marshals and the former was forcefully taken out of the assembly for the day.
Gupta then sat near the statue of Mahatama Gandhi in the Vidhan Sabha complex.
“The party wanted to divert public attention from corruption charges to EVM. The demo and discussion on EVMs turned down to be fictitious. I had given notice for motion for adjournment under Section 59 to the Speaker Vidhan Sabha for discussion on the subject. The party wanted to shun embarrassment over the graft charges against chief minister and urban development minister,” Gupta said.
Taking a dig at the AAP over tampering allegation, the BJP said the act establishes the party’s hypocrisy.
Condemning the AAP, BJP state unit president Manoj Tiwari said the ruling party in the national capital is spreading anarchy by allowing its MLAs to demonstrate EVM manipulation by using a duplicate machine to malign the electoral system.
In the evening, the BJP leaders also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against AAP for submitting ‘wrong information’ to the commission and Income Tax (IT) department about donations received by it.
A BJP delegation led by Tiwari met election commissioners AK Joti and Om Prakash Rawat, and submitted a complaint against AAP and also sought the party de-recognition.
