Lokayukta asks sacked MLA to record statement on May 19

-

The Delhi Lokayukta has issued notice to sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra in connection with corruption allegations made by him against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and minister Satyendar Jain.

Lokayukta Justice Reva Khetrapal has asked him to appear on May 19 to record his statement pertaining to his allegations. The notice came after a petition was filed by the legal cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Seeking an enquiry into the matter, the petition filed by party’s legal team member Neeraj, an advocate, said both public functionaries have ‘abused their positions as such to obtain any gain or favour to themselves’.

Neeraj told HT that if Mishra is unable to appear before the Lokayukta, as he is sitting on fast, a court-appointed commissioner may go to record his statement.

The anti-corruption ombudsman may seek documents, which Mishra has given to Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to substantiate his allegations.

In its petition, the legal cell of Delhi BJP had relied on various media reports including the Hindustan Times.

“It is further submitted that till the time of filing this complain no clarification has come from Arvind Kejriwal or from Satyendar Jain regarding the transaction of ₹2 crore in cash,” said the petition.

A day after his removal from the cabinet, Mishra, former water minister had alleged on Sunday that “he saw Jain giving R two crore to CM Kejriwal at his residence on Friday.” HTC
