TRAGEDY Prime Minister announces exgratia of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin killed in accident

Twenty four people, including five children, were killed and 28 injured when the boundary wall of a banquet hall collapsed amid a heavy storm late on Wednesday in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district.

The incident took place at the Annapurna marriage home during a wedding ceremony.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased family and ₹50,000 each to the seriously injured from the PM relief fund.

The state government has also announced a similar compensati­on, said Kali Charan Saraf, state health minister. An enquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The government has constitute­d three probe committees, which have been asked to submit their reports in seven days.

Superinten­dent of police Anil Tank said the wall was nearly 80-100 feet long and 12-15 feet in height.

“The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals immediatel­y,” he said.

Saraf, who met the injured, told reporters they would be provided free treatment at all hospitals. Four of the injured have been referred to Jaipur.

The deceased were identified as Kunwar Singh, Ravi Sharma (23), Rajveer Gujjar, Prince (11), Anu (28), Vinod (36), Raghvendra (18), Ashok Saini, Ajay (19), Madan Singh (60), Raj Kumar (25), Vinod, Indira (32), Shakuntla Devi (45), Devi (38), Gaurav (18), Gulraj, Rajkumari, Pooja, Pradeep, Vishal, Badri, Geeta and Vikram Singh.
