‘Stalker’ tries to kill hubby of woman he followed for 5 years
A 37-year-old property dealer was arrested on Thursday for allegedly attempting to murder the husband of a woman he was obsessed with and whom he had been stalking — unknown to her — since 2012, police said on Friday.
Vivek Kumar Aggarwal had made two attempts to kill the woman’s husband in less than two months this year. He was jealous with the man because he thought the husband was the reason why he couldn’t get close to the woman.
In the first attempt on February 4, a bullet fired allegedly by Aggarwal missed its target and the woman’s husband escaped unhurt. The man did not file a police complaint because he was not sure that he was the target.
On April 20, the couple survived a near-fatal attack when Aggarwal allegedly fired a bullet at them when they were on a motorbike, and it hit the husband’s shoulder.
Rishipal, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini district), said that a case of attempt to murder was registered at the Vijay Vihar police station. During the investigation, the police identified the motorcycle that the attacker was riding and zeroed in on Aggarwal. He was finally arrested from his home in Budh Vihar.
The woman didn’t even know Aggarwal. Nor had she seen his face because Aggarwal never met her in person to express his feelings. According to police, Aggarwal stalked and followed her in Metro trains, buses and on road. He had once proposed friendship and love to the woman through text messages. But even then he hadn’t revealed his identity. When her colleagues reprimanded him and threatened to file a police complaint, Aggarwal stopped harassing her over phone, said a police officer.
Rishipal said Aggarwal got the idea of constantly stalking the woman and attempting to kill her husband after watching a popular Hindi film ‘Darr’, where the actor is shown as a stalker.

attacking the woman’s husband the second time, he threw a letter at her parents’ home in Sector2, Rohini. In the letter, he identified himself as the brother of a girl who committed suicide because of the woman’s husband. “In the letter, he wrote that the woman’s husband had destroyed his (fictitious) sister’s life by getting her pregnant,” said the DCP.
“Aggarwal’s objective behind sending the letter was to ruin the woman’s married life by creating a suspicion against her husband in her parents’ minds. He thought that after reading the letter, the woman and her parents will file for a divorce, and after the divorce, he could approach her with his proposal,” said Rishipal.
During interrogation, when the DCP reportedly asked what if the bullet had killed the woman, Aggarwal replied that he would have killed himself had she died.
A school dropout, Aggarwal had first seen the woman at a real estate office in Kirti Nagar, where she worked. He fell in love with her at first sight. “During the interrogation, Aggarwal claimed that he had been seeing the woman in his dreams since 2008-09. And when he first saw her in 2012, he straightway believed that she was his dreamgirl,” added the DCP.
