THE TWO CHILDREN HAD GONE TO PLAY NEAR THE TRACKS AT AROUND 7.45 AM, WHEN THE TRAIN RAN OVER THEM

Two minors — a brother and sister — were run over by a speeding train near Kadkad Model locality in Sahibabad on Friday morning.

The children, identified as Sudhir, 13, and Himanshi, 10, had gone out to play, even though their mother Malana Devi had tasked them with household chores. The incident came to light when other children of the locality found their dead bodies on the railway track at around 8am, and informed their mother.

“Around 7.30am, I asked them to help me fetch some water but they went out of the house to play with other children. They might have gone near the railway track while playing and were run over by the train. I had often told them not to go near the tracks but they did not listen. The incident has shattered us,” Malana Devi said.

The minors were among the five siblings of the family that hailed from Hardoi district. Malana Devi said that during the last school admission session, both the children were at their native place and hence, could not be admitted to school in Sahibabad.

“They were busy playing most of the time. Today too, they did not listen to me and ran out to play with other children who stay near the tracks. Later, the other children arrived and informed me. Their bodies bore severe injury marks,” she added.

Rojan Tyagi, station house officer Link Road police station, said, “A train headed towards Ghaziabad was passing through the tracks at around 7.45pm. We have sent both the bodies for post mortem as part of legal procedure,” he said.
