September date for second flyover near Mayur Vihar
Commuters going to and from Mayur Vihar-I will be able to ride signal free ride from September, thanks to a a new flyover being constructed on the Noida link road.
At present, commuters coming from Noida have to wait at the traffic signal near Mayur Vihar-I before being able to turn right for Mayur Vihar-I. People from Mayur Vihar-I, similarly, have to wait at the Mayur Vihar-I signal to turn right if they are travelling towards Akshardham. Once the flyover is completed, the signal will be removed and with the help of two loops, traffic bound for Mayur Vihar-I will be managed.
“There is already a flyover in place on the Noida link road. The under-construction flyover will run parallel to the existing one so that traffic from both the directions can move signal free. Once the construction is completed, the traffic signal below the flyover will be removed,” said a PWD official. The Public Works Department is expected to complete work by September.
Those coming from Noida and going towards Akshardham too will be able to take the new flyover and have a signal free ride.
The new flyover is likely to decongest Mayur Vihar-I and completely change the look of the area with plan of separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, corridor for non-motorised vehicle and space for bus stops.
Apart from the existing station, a new Metro station, part of Phase III expansion of Delhi metro, is also coming up.
“A plan has been prepared to redevelop the area around the Metro station,” the PWD official added.
Recently, the PWD has completed work on a bridge connecting Mayur Vihar-I with the Noida link road, which benefitted the residents of Sahyog, Hindustan Times, IFS and other apartments.
The new flyover will also connect residents directly to the Barapullah corridor, which is under construction and is running behind schedule. The PWD had initially estimated to finish work on the corridor by December 2017. PWD officials, however, now believe that the corridor cannot be completed before 2018.
