Empty cartridge inside car helps cops crack false case

fired bullet cartridge discovered inside a Scorpio car has helped police lift the lid off an alleged false case of attempt to murder. The man who allegedly made the fake call that his neighbours opened fire on him has been arrested, said police.

The accused, Suresh Kumar Sagar, lives in Sultanpuri’s C-block and runs his own business. He made a call to police around 10pm on Wednesday to allege that one of his neighbours, Manvir, had opened fire in which he had a narrow escape.

When a police team reached the spot, they found two windows of his Scorpio car shattered. Sagar allegedly told the PCR team that Manvir had intercepted him and fired at him from some distance outside the SUV.

But when a police team began an examination of the car, they spotted an empty cartridge of 7.65 mm pistol lying inside. “Since Sagar told us that the assailant fired from outside, an empty cartridge being found inside the vehicle aroused our suspicion,” said a senior police officer.

When presented with evidence that suggested that Sagar was lying, he allegedly broke down and confessed. He allegedly told the police that he himself had fired on his car’s windows to falsely implicate his neighbour.

Sagar and his neighbour were involved in a fight few days back after which the accused was allegedly looking for an opportunity to implicate him, said police. Further interrogation of Sagar led the police to the pistol used in the shooting.
