inconsistent,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (North).

When grilled, Bunty allegedly confessed to using contract killers to get Hassan shot dead.

Interrogated further about Hassan’s wife and children, he allegedly confessed to getting them murdered as well. Bunty allegedly told police he got friendly with Hassan’s family during the latter’s time in jail.

“Sometime in the second half of April, Bunty tricked Hassan’s wife and two daughters into accompanying him to the family’s village in Meerut,” said an investigator.

Hassan’s 40-year-old wife, Ishrat, and daughters Arju, 19, and Arshi, 15, were allegedly shot dead and buried in the fields along the highway in UP.

He returned to Delhi and allegedly got Hassan’s sons, 20-yearold Aaquib and Shakib, 16, killed.

While the bodies of the three women are yet to be found, police on Monday night dug out the skeletal remains of Hassan’s two sons, the DCP said.

The Bahujan Samaj Party may have chosen Chaudhary Munawwar Hassan as their candidate to contest the 2013 Delhi assembly polls from Badli constituency, but in his locality in North Delhi’s Burari, the politician was notorious as a ‘property grabber’.

“There are over a dozen criminal cases ranging from attempt to murder to kidnapping registered against Hassan. He had also been jailed in January this year in a rape case registered against him in 2015. He was released on interim bail on May 17,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (North).

According to police’s investigation so far, there were at least half-a-dozen disputed properties owned by Hassan, the total worth of which is over Rs 2 crore. It was these properties that Hassan’s business partner, Sahid Khan alias Bunty, was eyeing.

Since the duo were business partners as real estate agents, Bunty knew of all dealings involving Hassan and the and disputed properties owned by him. So, while Hassan spent his time in jail in a rape case, Bunty allegedly planned carefully to grab all those properties.

“Bunty had already started preparing the duplicate documents which could help him grab the properties after Hassan’s death. But he kept helping Hassan with his court cases and family issues so that no one would suspect him,” said the DCP.

But merely killing Hassan would not be enough, so he allegedly planned to eliminate the politician’s family as well.
