On Sunday evening, Digambar went to Singh’s house and picked up a fight. He went out and returned with a gun. He shot his father and his stepmother.

A 55-year-old retired CRPF personnel was shot dead, allegedly by his son, following a quarrel over property at their home in Outer Delhi’s Najafgarh late on Sunday night.

Police said Digambar, who left the CISF a few years ago and was working as a property dealer, also allegedly shot his stepmother with his licensed revolver. The woman, Suman, is hospitalised with a single gunshot wound and is expected to survive, said police.

The deceased, Nahar Singh, lived with his second wife, Suman, and her three children from previous husband, in Najafgarh’s Sainik Enclave after his first wife had died 12 years ago, an officer said.

Singh’s first wife had left behind two sons, Digambar and Rahul. However, the relations between Singh and his two sons had soured over the years — some of his properties being the bone of contention between them.

Singh’s two sons would frequently visit his home and allegedly pressurise the deceased to part with some of his lands. Singh, however, was adamant not to entertain their demands.

On Sunday evening, Digambar against visited Singh’s home and picked up a fight with his father. When other members of the family stood up for Singh, Digambar walked out of the home, said Suman’s son, Deepak.

But Digambar returned home with his revolver in about 15 minutes and allegedly opened fire on his father.

As Singh collapsed to the ground, Suman ran towards him. Digambar allegedly shot at her as well before fleeing the spot by waving the gun in the air.

Singh and Suman were rushed to a nearby hospital where the man was declared brought dead. Police subsequently registered a murder case and formed a team to hunt for Digambar.

The accused was arrested in the early hours of Monday after police learnt of his hideout from one of his relatives.

The revolver used in the crime has been seized. Digambar has told police he obtained a license for the revolver during his service with the CISF.
