A four-year-old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped on May 22, was traced and reunited with her family within four hours of the incident.

The police received a complaint from the girl’s father, Mumtiaz, a resident of Sunder Nagri, saying that his daughter was kidnapped while she had gone to a nearby shop to buy sweets. He said he searched for the girl with his family members but could not find her. When he failed to trace his daughter, he reported the matter to police and a case was registered.

“We received a complaint of a ‘missing child’ from the father of the girl and got on the job immediately. A search team was formed. We searched parks, bus terminals, Metro stations, taxi stands and all possible places in the locality,” DCP northeast Ajit Kumar Singla said.

“News was broadcast on social media including WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter in an attempt to recover the child,” Singla said.

“She was finally recovered safely from Bhopura Chowk and handed over to her parents,” he added.

The army did not have to “consult members of Parliament as to what they should do,” he added.

On Tuesday, the Indian Army said it had carried out “punitive fire assaults” on Pakistani positions across the LoC, inflicting some damage. The action was a response to the beheading of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops.

India and Pakistan also released videos of their artillery targeting posts along the LoC.

Tensions between the two sides have been high since a terror attack on an Indian Army base in Uri last September killed 19 soldiers. India retaliated against the attack by carrying out “surgical strikes” across the LoC to destroy terrorist launch pads.

In a related development, Lt Gen Vincent Stewart, director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, said India is considering “punitive actions” against Pakistan for its alleged support to cross-border terrorism.

“India has sought and continues to move to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and is considering punitive options to raise the cost to Islamabad for its alleged support to cross-border terrorism,” he told members of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee during a Congressional hearing.

India-Pakistan relations have worsened following several terrorist attacks, he said.

“Continued threat of high level terror attacks in India, violence in Kashmir and bilateral diplomatic recriminations will further strain India-Pakistan ties in 2017,” he added.

PK Pandey was appointed as the new DM, Bablu Kumar will take charge as the district police chief. The government also transferred divisional commissioner and a deputy inspector general of police.

Home secretary Mani Prasad Mishra and three top police officials were rushed to Saharanpur after Yogi Adityanath reviewed the situation on Tuesday, shortly after fresh clashes left one dead and eight injured.

Earlier on Wednesday, motorcyle-borne assailants shot at a youth, identified as Pradeep Chauhan, when he was on his way to Saharanpur. The victim, shot at from behind, was sent to a hospital in Chandigarh.

Police arrested more than 20 people on Tuesday after the attacks on Dalits who were returning from a rally of Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati.

Mayawati met some families of victims and held the BJP government responsible for the violence. She called upon the people of all castes to work for peace and harmony.

State health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said the BSP president was shedding crocodile tears.

But some boards used the policy to increase marks, thereby increasing the overall pass percentage. The scores triggered abnormally high cut-offs — sometimes touching 100% — for subjects such as mathematics and history during admission to sought-after colleges.

“We are going to contest inflation of marks as it is an unfair practice,” a senior HRD ministry official said.
