A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF GIRL STUDENTS PASSED THE CBSE CLASS 12 BOARD EXAMS THIS YEAR COMPARED TO BOYS

Girls have been traditionally outshining boys in CBSE results and this year was no different. A higher percentage of girl students passed the CBSE Class 12 board exams this year compared to boys.

The overall all-India pass percentage was 82.02%. Among girls, 87.5% made the cut compared to 78% boys who cleared the exams, according to the results released on Sunday.

Among the toppers, of the four students who attained the three best scores, three are girls.

Raksha Gopal, a 17-year-old resident of Noida, scored 99.6%. She scored a perfect hundred in English, political science and economics but lost a point each in history and psychology.

In 2016, Sukriti Gupta had topped the charts with 99.4%. In fact, in the past five years, at least one female student has appeared in the top three positions.

Experts in the field of education said that this could be just because that girls “tend to work harder.”

“Across the board, girls/ women tend to work harder because the challenges in front of them are greater. They have had to work against greater odds. Women may not always have the opportunity, so when given one, they make the best of it. This is evident in every field. Even at the school’s extra-curricular activities, such as the annual day, girls tend to perform more,” said Ameeta Wattal, principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road.

Rajeshwari Kapri, principal of the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School in Sonia Vihar, believes girls tend to be “more goal oriented.” “Boys get distracted easily. It is not as easy to distract a girl from her goals,” she said.
