LINE OPENED Kejriwal and Naidu flag off DMRC’s heritage line, 9,806 used facility till 8pm on opening day

I want to thank the central govt and M Venkaiah Naidu for helping whenever we reached out to them for things related to Delhi Metro.

minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu flagged off the muchawaited Heritage Line of Delhi metro via video-conferencing from Metro Bhawan on Sunday.

With this line, Delhi Metro will provide one more link to one of Delhi’s most jam-prone and densely populated areas -- the Walled City. The Gurgaon-Viswavidalaya line passes through another part of Old Delhi

The 5.17-km heritage corridor, an extension of the Violet Line (ITO-Escort Mujeser), will have four stations -- Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Kashmere Gate.

The frequency of trains on this section will be 3 minutes 20 seconds during peak hours— between 9 and 12 in the morning and 5 and 8 in the evening, and will vary in non-peak hours.

Metro authorities said that they expect around 90,000 additional commuters in the new section. On the first day, 9,806 people used the heritage line. The ridership at Kashmere Gate was 2073, Lal Qila 3472, Jama Masjid 3107 and Delhi Gate 1154 till 8pm.

The legacy of Shahjahanabad has been showcased in the four metro stations, all underground, using an independent theme for each of the four stations.

The CM thanked Central government and Union minister Venkaiah Naidu “for helping whenever we reached out to them for things related to Delhi metro”.

Drawing attention to need for better public transport in Delhi, Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said, “Focus would be on more cycling track, better public transport in Delhi. I want to see cycle track in entire Delhi.” He said the culture of every member in a family having a car is not good. “People should introspect,” he said.

This section will ease commuting from areas along Delhi Metro’s Red Line (Rithala–Dilshad Garden) to south Delhi and Faridabad. Passengers now will change trains only once at Kashmere Gate, which has become a mega interchange station.
