No interviews, group discussion­s in 3 courses DU colleges to hold more Open Day events to clear student admission queries

Till last year, applicants had to take an entrance test followed by a group discussion and personal interview. The weightage given to entrance exam was 85% and 15% to for the group discussion and interview.

“But this year we have decided to do away with group discussion and the interview. The merit list will be prepared based on the entrance test and Class 12 marks,” said Manoj Khanna, convener of the admission committee.

The weightage given to entrance will be 65%, with the remaining marks being accounted for by the Class 12 marks.

Last year there were 991 seats on offer in the three courses but the university has approved starting Bachelor of Management Studies in four more colleges with 46 seats each and BBA (Financial Investment Analysis) in one college with 46 seats.

“However, it is not yet clear if all the colleges will be starting the courses this year as some approvals are still pending,” Khanna said.

The schedule for online registrati­on for these courses was supposed to start on May 31 but the university has postponed it and is yet to announce the final schedule.

The Joint Admission Test has an objective type multiple choice questions paper to evaluate the aptitude of the candidates.

Teachers said that there is no prescribed syllabus or format for the entrance test but the questions will be mostly from English, Mathematic­s, General Aptitude and Business Knowledge. New DelhiStude­nts who could not make it to ‘Open Days’ conducted by Delhi University can now head to various colleges to attend the event and get informatio­n about the admission process.

On Thursday, Kamla Nehru College in south Campus held a ‘Open Day’, during which most queries were about the courses offered by the college, calculatio­n of best four and deduction in percentage points while changing streams.

College authoritie­s advised students to give importance to the course over college. “Do not worry much about the college and give importance to the course you choose. Keep your options as wide as you can,” principal of Kamla Nehru College Kalpana Bhakuni told students.

All DU Colleges will be holding ‘Open Days’ to address queries of students. Lady Sri Ram College will hold its Open Day on June 6, 7, 8, 9. Daulat Ram College will be holding the session on June 8. Hansraj will hold a Open Day event on Friday.

The School of Open Learning (SOL) began accepting admission applicatio­ns online on Thursday.

SOL offers BA, B.Com, BA (honours) Political Science, B.Com (honours) and BA (honours) English. One can pursue a BCom (Hons), as long as one has scored 60% or more in their 12th grades. For BA (Hons) English, one needs to have secured at least 65% in the 12th boards, with at least 75% in English. Else, they must have an aggregate of 65% in elective English and 3 academic subjects.

To pursue a BA (Hons) programme in Political Science, your best four score must be at least 50%, where one of the four subjects is a language. For their BCom and BA programmes, the minimum eligibilit­y is that one needs to have scored at least 40% in their qualifying exam.

Around forty four companies visited the campus in the last academic year. Some of the prominent ones were Ernst and Young, Genpact, Aon Hewitt, Urbanclap and American Express.

The college is wifi enabled and has four computer labs that accommodat­es 400 students at once.
