The police formed a Special Investigation Team led by an assistant commissioner of police on Tuesday after a 22-year-old woman alleged that she was gang raped by three men who threw her nine-month old daughter off the auto rickshaw in which she was travelling, leading to the death of her child.

According to the woman’s complaint, the driver of the auto rickshaw in which she was travelling from her home to her parent’s house in Khandsa village, Gurgaon, along with two other men, started molesting her as soon as she sat in the auto on May 29 late evening.

When the woman started shouting, the infant began crying. The three men threw the child out of the auto rickshaw and took turns to rape her, she alleged.

The police released the sketches of the three accused late Tuesday evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ashok Bakshi told HT that the woman initially filed an FIR against three men for the death of the nine-month-old daughter.

“An FIR under section 304 (murder) of the IPC was filed on May 30 at IMT Manesar police station”, the officer said.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Manesar Dharamveer Singh, who will lead the SIT, said the woman was afraid that her husband might leave her if he came to know about the gang rape. However, she later gathered courage and told the police about the gang rape on June 3.

A medical examination was conducted on June 3 and the police are waiting for the report to confirm the allegation of rape. The police are also tracing the auto rickshaw driver.

Late Tuesday evening, a woman sub-inspector was suspended for not handling the case properly.

“She has been suspended based on a preliminary report by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Manesar. There were irregularities in handling the case and an inquiry has been ordered,” police PRO Manish Sehgal said.

Sehgal added that the ‘irregularities’ on the part of the woman sub-inspector were with respect to ‘counselling the complainant and her family.
