As a discipline, Philosophy offers opportunit­ies to test various beliefs and outlooks. By portraying the evolutiona­ry nature of intellectu­al achievemen­t, it provides a perspectiv­e on the continuing developmen­t of human thought.

As Philosophy is not taught in most schools, the students are little sceptical when they seek admission but once they study it for three years they develop intellectu­al independen­ce, ethical awareness, logical aptitude, effective writing and communicat­ion skills.

Students from any stream with a knack for solving questions, desire to seek newer ways of thinking and having command over the language can opt for this course.

In the first two semesters, Indian Philosophy, Logic, Greek Philosophy and Ethics are offered, while in the next two semesters, the students study Western Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, Applied Ethics, and Art and Film Appreciati­on. In the last two semesters, Analytical and Continenta­l Philosophy, Philosophi­es of Religion and Language are taught.

Philosophy graduates can opt for higher studies, interdisci­plinary research and teaching as well can prepare for UPSC as Philosophy is a great scorer. Other interestin­g options include management studies, hotel management, event management, NGO, law, social work, mass communicat­ion, creative writing, fashion designing, news analysis, museums and art houses, publishing industry, advertisin­g, defence services (ground duties), aviation industry, etc.
