Cops’ children to be trained for international sporting events
Keeping in mind India’s participation in the 2020 Olympics, children of constables and head constables from the Delhi Police personnel will be trained in five sports.
A total of 26 national and international sportspersons from the Delhi Police will be training these children under the ‘Mission Olympics’ initiative by the Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS) and led by its president, Suchna Patnaik, the society’s president and the wife of the Delhi Police Commissioner.
The initiative is already around a month old as the police have already begun the screening of 569 children who showed promise and interest in participation. On Sunday, 178 of these children were chosen for the next step.
“We are focusing on children on constables and head constables as they are the most deprived lot. Some of them showed a lot of promise. A girl who had never touched a rifle or saw a shooting range performed very well in shooting after just a week of training,” said Suchna Patnaik.

a function on Sunday will be given formal training in five sports: shooting, wrestling, athletics, badminton and football.
“We are seeking help from the sports ministry, corporate, eminent sportspersons and sponsors so that the children’s nutritional requirements, physiotherapy and physical fitness are taken care of,” said Amulya Patnaik, Delhi Police Commissioner.
The second phase of the initiative will involve pushing these young sportspersons into state level competitions. Participation at the national level will comprise the third phase.
The society hopes to receive support from the sports ministry in the later stages of the initiative. “We have big dreams to contribute to India’s performance at the 2020 Olympics. Our talented children will do well if given the necessary support,” said Dr Suchi Singh, the PFWS vicepresident.
