Police arrested a 35-year-old man who was allegedly involved in over 16 cases of burglary, mostly committed in posh areas such as Golf Links and Greater Kailash in south Delhi.

The suspect, Mohammed Akram, targeted big houses. Cash, ATM cards, branded clothes and electronic items have been recovered from him.

Akram was initially arrested in 2004. He used to scale boundary walls and cover his face with clothes and wore surgical gloves in his hands. He would carry two big screw drivers to break the locks. Police said he used to spend his booty on branded clothes, shoes and other items.

“CCTV footages retrieved from the scene of crime and nearby places revealed that the burglaries were committed by a single person with muffled face/ head and white gloves in both hands. The accused had changed the focus of the CCTV cameras in most of the incidents to conceal his identity and activities,” said a senior police official.

Police nabbed Akram on a tipoff. A trap was laid and Akram was arrested near Deer Park.

Akram allegedly told police that he used to dispose of the stolen valuables to a man who runs a jewellery shop in Seelampur. The receiver, Sachin Verma, has been arrested.
