CBSE sets up two panels to look into ‘problems’ in evaluation
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has set up two committees to look into the ‘problems’ related to the evaluation process after receiving complaints from students and parents.
“The board has taken a prompt decision to set up two committees comprising senior officers of the Board to delve in depth in to the problems related to the evaluation processes being followed in the Board,” CBSE said.
The board said the first committee will enquire in to the process of evaluation and post examination processes to identify and analyse discrepancies and suggest corrective measures to strengthen the process.
“The committee will submit the report within two months of its inception,” an official said.
A source said the first committee will also fix responsibility by finding out the teachers/evaluators responsible for the evaluation errors. The second panel will study, analyse and suggest systemic improvements in the evaluation process to make the system robust. The panel will submit the report within three months of its formation, CBSE said.
Sources said HRD secretary (school education & literacy) Anil Swarup had a long discussion with the CBSE chairman over implementation of a foolproof system to minimise errors as it concerns future of many students. A source said though error in verification is not unprecedented and has happened in the past, but the government has taken it very seriously.
“An impression is being created that it has happened for the first time, but if you look at the data for the past four years, similar errors have occurred. However, CBSE and the ministry wants to reduce even that,” a source said.
The CBSE on Monday had clarified that it has received requests for verification of marks from only 2.47% of the students.
BOTH THE PANELS WILL SUBMIT THE REPORT WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF THEIR FORMATION
