Delhi University gets 1.2 lakh applicatio­ns for PG courses

Delhi University has received over 1.2 lakh applicatio­ns for its postgradua­te courses and 17,628 forms for research courses, admission to which are based on an entrance test.

Friday was the last date to apply for the courses and the entrance tests will begin from July 1. For MPhil and PhD there are roughly around 1,500 seats. For MPhil in Hindi there are 1,026 applicatio­ns and for PhD there are 811 applicatio­ns. For MPhil in Commerce there are 689 applicatio­ns and for PhD it is 689.

This year the entrance test will be only qualifying and the merit list will be based on the score achieved by the candidate in the viva-voce, officials said.

There are about 9,000-10,000 seats at the postgradua­te level in around 72 courses such as MA, MSc and Master in Computer Applicatio­ns (MCA).

This year DU has received 1,22,614 applicatio­ns for their postgradua­te courses, with the most number of applicatio­ns being registered for LLB, and B Ed. As many as 19,206 people have applied for LLB, while 18,281 people have opted for BEd. MCom is the third most popular course choice among postgradua­te applicants with 10640 applicatio­n.

Only one candidate has applied for an MA in Tamil.

The university reserves 50% seats for direct admission to most PG courses for students who have completed their undergradu­ate degree from DU. The admission is based on the marks scored by the applicants in their undergradu­ate courses.The remaining 50% seats are for those who clear entrance exams.
