To review the progress of the grade separator at the 1.6-km Rani Jhansi Flyover, lieutenant governor Anil Baijal visited the site with senior officials of various departments on Saturday.

Work on the project to ease traffic congestion from Barafkhana to Filimistan Cinema started in 2008. But after work began, the project ran into legal troubles and later became a symbol of red tape and civic apathy.

On Saturday, Baijal checked the status of construction work and assured that the flyover would open by October-end.

But considering the fact that the project has already missed several deadlines, it remains to be seen if it meets target this time. Baijal had earlier visited the place on May 13.

Baijal chaired a meeting of stakeholders at DCM Chowk. “The L-G enquired about various bottlenecks delaying the project and asked the stakeholders to take action in a time-bound manner,” said senior official.

A portion of the flyover has to be completed by the Northern Railway. An official informed that Railways work will be completed by mid -September.

The L-G directed the North DMC commissioner to ensure there are no potholes on the road to avoid waterlogging during monsoon and use good quality material in construction.

“We took note of the apprehensions raised by Baijal. Despite various hindrances in the alignment, most of the work has been done,” said North DMC commissioner Praveen Gupta.

Delhi Jal Board CEO Keshav Chandra said work on shifting a major pipe line and sewer will be completed by Sunday. The L-G asked the agency to ensure there is no leakage of water from the pipe lines.

The L-G plans to review the progress again after a month.

“He said he got swayed and started hitting them.”

The murder was the latest in a string of similar mob attacks that have triggered outrage across India. In April, a Muslim dairy farmer was lynched in Rajasthan by alleged cow vigilantes. A month later, a frenzied tribal mob killed seven people in 24 hours in Jharkhand over child abduction rumours.

The dead boy was identified as Hafiz Junaid. His three brothers —Hashim, Moin and Sakir — who joined the victim in Ballabhgarh, were hospitalised with stab wounds. Ramesh, who uses only one name, was arrested on Friday. Four others have been detained for questioning.

“Primarily four men launched the attack. From the accused we have recovered a few things that indicate his presence on the train The Metro network would be extended to Jewar to ensure that the new facility has multimodal connectivity.
