The Delhi Police has arrested a 22-year-old man, who is the shooter of an infamous gang, for his alleged involvement in the murder of notorious criminal Rajesh Durmat, outside Rohini court.

The Haryana-based accused, Parveen, belongs to Kala Aasaudia gang. He was wanted for the murder of Durmat, a 38-year-old undertrial who was a member of Neetu Dabodhia gang. Durmat was shot dead while being brought to Rohini court by Haryana Police for a hearing in April this year.

Durmat, who was arrested in December in a murder case in Agra and had been lodged in Jhajjar jail since then, was wanted in more than 16 cases of robbery, murder and dacoity. However, he was gunned down by two people outside gate number three of Rohini court complex on April 29.

On that day, as soon as he got down from the police vehicle, one of the two men on a motorbike had opened fire at him with a country-made pistol. Eyewitnesses had said that Durmat had ducked to save himself, but a bullet hit his shoulder and another one pierced through his chest, which he collapsed. Police had said that he died on the way to the hospital.

Police had, at that time, apprehended one of the shooters, Mohit, who had revealed that he had been paid to kill Durmat.

Police arrested the accused Parveen on June 23, 2017, based on a tip-off that he will come to Mukarba Chowk bus stop, Outer Ring Road, Delhi, to meet an acquaintance. A team of police was immediately formed and a trap was laid near the place of information. Around 5.20 pm, Parveen was apprehended with one country-made pistol with two live cartridges. A case under relevant Sections of the Arms Act was registered.

“During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the murder of Rajesh Durmat. It was also revealed by him that the cold-blooded murder of Durmat in police custody was in retaliation to the murder of one Rajeev alias Kala Aasodia, who was killed in custody by Durmat’s gang members. Further investigation is in progress,” said Ram Gopal Naik, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch).

Parveen is a driver by profession, police said.
