THAKUR, WHO IS CIRCLE OFFICER (CO) SYANA, WAS SENT BY SSP MUNIRAJ G, TO CONTROL THE MOB OF AGITATED WORKERS

When Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers raised slogans against the police at district court compound in western UP’s Bulandshahr district on Friday, young provincial police officer Shrestha Thakur walked in and took on dozens of agitated workers single-handedly.

The commotion started between BJP workers and police officials on Thursday after Pramod Lodhi, husband of a Zila Panchayat member was given a challan of ₹200 for not having proper documentation for his twowheeler.

Workers alleged that the cops took the keys of his vehicle and even slapped him. Lodhi was later booked under IPC sections for voluntarily causing hurt, deterring a public servant from his duty and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.

Thakur, who is circle officer (CO) Syana, was sent by the senior superintendent of police Muniraj G, to control the mob of agitated workers who were allegedly trying to prevent Lodhi from being produced in court.

The BJP workers screamed, “CO sahib haay haay, police prashashan murdabad...” against the police action against Pramod when the woman officer arrived at court on Friday.

“You cannot talk to a government officer in this manner. Show me where you paid the bribe of ₹2,000? You should refrain from levying such allegations if you cannot prove... I will slap case of 354 (molestation) and not fearful of you...” she said when she was confronted by the mob. The video also went viral on social media.

“Pramod was slapped 15 times by a station officer and later put in lockup before sent to jail. On Friday, while he was taken to court, our members gathered and questioned police about the atrocity they inflicted... Our members did not misbehave with police but they slapped FIR,” said Himanshu Mittal, BJP’s disA trict president.

SSP Muniraj G said they also lodged an FIR against several people in connection with the incident. “The CO was sent to the court as the protesters were preventing the police from producing Pramod in court despite an FIR lodged against him. The officer (the CO) did her duty. It was after nearly 40 minutes that she was able to get the accused produced before the court,” he said.

However, the BJP district unit was not happy. “We have spoken to several state ministers and also spoke to the deputy chief minister. We have given two days time to police to find out the truth. In case they take no action against the CO, we will approach our state unit and seek their directions,” Mittal said.
