‘KUMBLE’S PAY HIKE PLAN NOT BASED ON ACTUAL FIGURES’
:Questions are being raised over former India coach Anil Kumble’s revised remuneration plan for the national cricketers and support staff.
Kumble, who prepared a remuneration model at the behest of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), had pitched for a substantial hike in players’ salary.
He had also recommended a special fee for the captain for taking extra responsibility and reportedly demanded 60 per cent of the captain’s estimated earnings for coach.
An Indian cricket board official claimed that Kumble’s plan was not based on actual figures.
“The figures he stated were not correct. He calculated figures of one year when the BCCI had to give extra money from its kitty so that international and domestic cricketers didn’t take a hit because that year the BCCI did not make substantial revenue due to very few home matches,” said an official, who was present when Kumble made the presentation on the day of the IPL final.
The CoA has asked BCCI’s Chief Financial Officer to give the actual figures.
However, the remuneration plan will be once again taken up by the BCCI officials in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, one of the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), said Kumble’s replacement will be finalised by July 10. The BCCI has re-opened the application process with July 9 being its deadline.
Asked what kind of coach the CAC was looking for, he quipped, “The one who can win us matches.”
Nobody wants confrontation. Talking about my state, whatever the Supreme Court says we will agree, we will implement the (Lodha Committee recommendation) in toto and we have conveyed this to the CoA
