The Delhi assembly’s privileges committee was on Thursday asked to probe the role of leader of opposition Vijender Gupta and sacked minister Kapil Mishra in “facilitating” the unauthorised entry of a woman into the MLA’s lounge.

The woman, Simranjeet Kaur, was allegedly thrashed by AAP MLAs on Wednesday after they suspected her of having come along with two other men and thrown pamphlets in the house from the visitors’ gallery.

Speaker Ram Niwas Goel announced the decision to refer the matter to the privileges committee after a heated exchange involving AAP legislator and deputy speaker Rakhi Birla on one side and BJP MLAs Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Jagdish Pradhan on the other.

Goel observed that Gupta’s office had allegedly issued the pass to the woman.

The woman had come to Vidhan Sabha on Thursday too to meet the speaker, but was denied permission. Delhi Police said she filed a complaint regarding the matter with them later.

BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa said, “Only the women’s matter has been sent to the privileges committee and the issue of two men creating ruckus has been left out.” “This shows that the AAP people had brought them to create ruckus,” he said

Kapil Mishra and BJP MLA Manjinder Sirsa has also demanded that CCTV footage of the Delhi Assembly be seized.

Expressing apprehension over “destruction of evidence,” Mishra in a letter to speaker said that, “Some of the MLAs rushed out of the House and outsiders were called to the Assembly’s premises. These MLAs not just thrashed these accused, but also locked them in a room. I demand that yesterday’s CCTV footage of the Assembly be seized”.

Mishra and Sirsa were later marshalled out for creating a ruckus in the Delhi Assembly.
