THE POLL DATES ARE STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED BUT BOTH AAP AND BJP HAVE NAMED CANDIDATES FOR THE ASSEMBLY SEAT

date for the by-election to the Bawana legislative assembly seat are yet to be announced, but the Aam Aadmi Party formally launched its campaign with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal holding a ‘padyatra’ in the constituency on Saturday and seeking votes for the party.

The party’s national convener also promised completion of a few projects including road repair, water supply and construction of new school buildings in a timebound manner, even as he lashed out at former AAP MLA from the area, Ved Parkash, who quit the assembly earlier this year and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The election dates are still to be announced but both AAP and the BJP have named candidates for the seat. While the BJP on Friday named Ved Parkash as its official candidate, the AAP has chosen to give ticket to a party worker, Ramchandra, who was previously associated with India Against Corruption.

In 2008, Ramchandra contested assembly poll from the seat, which is one of the 12 reserved seats in Delhi for the scheduled castes, on a BSP ticket.

“Today during the survey of roads, I could see that their condition is very bad. Repair of all these roads will start in a month and will be completed in two to three months. People have also complained about the condition of a school building. Work on a new school building will start soon,” Kejriwal said, while addressing a meeting after touring several potholed and muddy roads in Shahbad Dairy and JJ Cluster areas of the constituency.

Addressing a similar meeting in a JJ colony, Kejriwal, who was accompanied by PWD minister Satyendar Jain and Ramchandra, promised to ensure water supply within a fortnight.

“DJB officers have also come along to assess the ground situation. They say water could be made available in 15 days,” Kejriwal said.

Hitting out at Ved Parkash, Kejriwal said the former AAP MLA ‘betrayed’ both the party and the area residents.

“We committed a mistake. The MLA you elected last time betrayed us and the people as well. Over the past two years, not once did he (Parkash) tell me that condition of roads is this poor,” Kejriwal said, even as he expressed confidence that voters will again back the AAP candidate in the bypolls.
