A 23-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a neighbour and his 16-year-old nephew in north-east Delhi’s Subhash Mohalla near Bhajanpura on Friday night. The accused allegedly suspected him of having an affair with his wife.

Police said Mohammad Shanu was stabbed at least 30 times at his neighbour’s home. After the murder, the accused and his nephew allegedly covered the body, locked the flat and fled. The crime came to light when some neighbours called the police after finding blood flowing out of the locked flat and dripping into a drain outside.

AK Singla, deputy commissioner of police (north-east), said they arrested the woman’s husband Vinod from his relative’s home in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. “We have also apprehended Vinod’s nephew, who is only 16. Vinod revealed that he was enraged about Shanu’s growing closeness with his wife,” said the DCP.

Singla said Vinod’s neighbour called the police control room at around 10 pm and informed about blood coming out from the locked flat. When the police team reached the spot, the neighbours told them they had heard somebody screaming inside Vinod’s home late in the evening.

“Our team broke open the main door of the flat and found blood in the corridor. It seemed like someone tried to wash it with water, but the blood still oozed. They followed the blood trail and reached a room, whose lock was broken. Inside the room, the team members found a man’s body with multiple stab wounds lying on a mattress on the floor, near a wooden bed,” Singla said.

Neighbours informed police it was Shanu, who lived around 200 metres away from the flat.

The house owner Vinod, his wife, children and nephew were missing. Local enquiry revealed that Vinod had recently sent his wife and children to their native village in Uttar Pradesh, as he suspected her of infidelity.

“As Vinod was our prime suspect, we tracked him down to his relative’s home in Aligarh and arrested him,” said an investigator, adding, Vinod admitted that he saw Shanu loitering near his house, which he believed was in search of his wife, summoned him inside, and stabbed him in a fit of rage during an altercation.
