Two persons were injured when they fired at each other following an argument over a card game in south Delhi’s Mehrauli on Friday night.

The injured persons, who are in hospital, were identified as Deepak, 32, and Deepak alias Lilu, also aged 32.

Deepak was injured in his palm and abdomen, while Lilu was shot in the back and forearm, police said.

According to Chinmoy Biswal, additional deputy commissioner of police (south), an injured person came to the police station at around 10.15pm with his friends and handed over a blood-soaked pistol to the police.

He identified himself as Deepak, son of Narender.

“Deepak told a policeman that he was hurt and proceeded with his friends to Fortis hospital in Vasant Kunj. The station house officer immediately sent an investigation officer to the hospital,” said Biswal.

While inquiry into the matter was on, police received an information from AIIMS Trauma Centre about a man named Lilu, who was admitted there with bullet injuries in his back and forearm. Police soon found out that both the men were involved in a shootout incident.

According to the police, the two injured, along with four others, were partying in a Mehrauli house. An argument broke out between Deepak and Lilu while they were drinking and playing cards. “We learnt that during an argument, Deepak took out a pistol and fired at Lilu when the latter was leaving the place. Lilu retaliated and the shootout happened,” said an investigator.

Police said at least three bullets were fired during the scuffle. The recorded statements of the injured persons too reveal that they shot at each other. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Mehrauli police station.
