Police arrested on Wednesday six people who had allegedly barged into a girls’ public school alongwith the daughter of former minister and BSP leader Hazi Yakoob Qureshi and thrashed a girl student inside a classroom on Monday.

While the former minister’s daughter could not be arrested due to protest by locals, police said they were trying to seek the arrest warrant for her and others named in the FIR.

Aasma, along with her aides, reportedly, used a wooden cane to thrash the Class 8 girl in the presence of teacher and other girls inside the classroom.

In CCTV footage, the minister’s daughter was seen carrying a cane, her aides using foul language and also pushing the class teacher trying to rescue the girl.

It all started when the victim, a minor, reportedly informed the teacher that two of her classmates had bunked the school on Friday.

The teacher scolded the duo on Saturday and summoned their parents. One of the girls, who is Qureshi’s relative, informed her local guardian Aasma (Qureshi’s daughter) about the scolding from her teacher.

Infuriated, she decided to teach the girl a lesson and arrived in the school on Monday morning with a few youngsters.

SSP Manzil Saini said six out of 13 accused identified from CCTV footage had been arrested. She said efforts were on to arrest the remaining accused.

“The family of victim and class teacher are not supporting police and not responding to request for medical examination,” said the SSP.
