The special cell of Delhi Police have arrested Rajesh alias Raje, a close accomplice of Satyawan aka Sonu Dariyapur, who is believed to have been behind the murder of gangster Bhupender alias Monu Dariyapur and two others, including a personal security officer. Monu Dariyapur was gunned down in April this year.

Gangster Monu Dariyapur, his personal security officers — assistant sub-inspector Vijay Kumar and constable Kuldeep — and two others Arun Shastri and Yogesh were attacked in outer Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar on April 30. Eight armed men had fired indiscriminately at their car killing Monu, Vijay Kumar and Shastri and injuring two others. Monu had sustained over 20 bullets.

Investigations into the triple murders hinted towards the involvement of Monu’s arch-rival Sonu Dariyapur. Police suspected that Monu’s marriage to Sonu’s cousin Rajrani, against her family’s wishes, was the prime reason for the killing. It was also learnt that Sonu was assisted by his associate Rajesh Raje and four hitmen during the killing.

PS Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police (special cell), said Raje was arrested on Wednesday from Gokarna cross, Madangiri, Karnataka following a tip-off. Raje is the third person to be arrested in case and carried a reward of R1 lakh. On May 20, one of the other alleged attackers Satish aka Dheela was arrested.

On June 8, one Naveen Khatri was held for his alleged role in planning the attack. The prime conspirator, Sonu Dariyapur, is still on the run.

During interrogation, Raje has apparently revealed that he wanted to kill Ramesh Lohar with whom he had a long standing gang rivalry in Haryana. “Sonu Dariyapur wanted to kill Monu. When Raje learnt about Sonu’s plan, he offered his support in killing Monu. Raje and Sonu joined hands to get rid of their rivals and formed a new alliance,” said the DCP.

Lohar was associated with gangster Krishan Pehalwan of Delhi. Raje on the other hand was associated with Pehalwan’s rival gang led by two brothers Anup and Balraj. Raje later joined hands with Sonu after the Anup-Balraj gang’s influence weakened after the murder of the brothers.

On March 28, Lohar was attacked in Rohtak Court on the direction of Raje. Lohar escaped but one of his associates, Sanjeet, was killed. Lohar avenged Sanjeet’s killing with attacks on Raje’s associates. Since Raje knew that Lohar was after his life, he joined hands with Sonu to get rid of Lohar. Raje was part of the gang that shot dead Monu and the police personnel, the DSP claimed.
