Delhi University colleges, who's funding has been stopped by the Delhi government after the university failed to appoint governing bodies, said they hope that matter is resolved soon otherwise they won’t be able to function.

Colleges, which receive 100% funding from the government, will be worst affected if the matter is not resolved soon.

“We are worried about the move. We hope the university and the government resolve the matter soon. From teachers’ salaries to electricity and water bills, everything is paid through the government funds. We won’t be able to function if they funding is stopped,” said Poonam Verma, principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

Balaram Pani, principal of Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, said, “It is a problem as we will have to stop our lab work, salaries and every other thing if we don’t get the funds from government. We have the funds for this quarter so there is no problem right away.”

However, the move to stop funds won’t have any immediate impact on any of these colleges, said DU officials. The colleges are given funds based on the number of students and subjects offered. The funds are released every quarter after the government’s finance department okays the budget sent by the college.

Mamta Sharma, principal of Aditi Mahavidyalaya, said the move will hamper the college as it depends entirely on the government funds.

“Definitely it will hamper the functioning of the colleges, especially those who receive 100% funding from the government. But I don’t think it will escalate too much. I am hoping there will be a solution in the coming week,” she said.
