Aarushi murder: After reserving verdict in Jan, HC hears case again

The Allahabad high court, which had reserved its judgment in the sensational Aarushi-Hemraj murder case in January this year, started hearing the case again on Tuesday.

The ‘re-hearing’ was allowed after the court found contradictions in some of the reports of the CBI. It has now asked the CBI counsel to submit details on the internet router which was open during the night when Aarushi and Hemraj were killed.

The next hearing is scheduled on August 31.

The bench comprising justice BK Narayana and justice AK Mishra is hearing the appeal filed by parents of Aarushi, Dr Rajesh Talwar and Dr Nupur Talwar, who were convicted and sentenced for life imprisonment by the CBI court, Ghaziabad.

The duo were convicted in November 2013, five years after their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and their house help Hemraj were found murdered on May 15/16, 2008.

While initially the missing servant was identified as the main suspect, the recovery of Hemraj’s partially decomposed body gave a mysterious twist to the story, a day after.

Later on, police treated parents as prime suspects. When the Talwar family accused the police of framing them up, the case was transferred to the CBI.

The CBI exonerated the parents and instead suspected Talwars’ assistant Krishna and two other domestic servants — Rajkumar and Vijay. But it failed to prove it.

In 2009, a new CBI team handed over the investigation to a new team named Rajesh Talwar as the sole suspect, but refused to charge him due to lack of evidence.

While parents opposed the closure, a court rejected the CBI’s claim that there was not enough evidence and ordered proceedings against the Talwars.
