BJP demands white paper on DTC revival plan

-

Delhi BJP on Monday demanded the Arvind Kejriwal government to come out with a white paper on its plan to revive the Delhi Transport Corporation, alleging financial health of the public transporter was in “disarray”.

“It is sad that the Arvind Kejriwal government is again trying to mislead the people of Delhi by claiming to make the DTC a world class body.

“The finances of the DTC are in a disarray and the Delhi government should bring a white paper on its affair,” Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said in a statement.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently announced to make the DTC a modern and world-class public transport organisation in two years.

Tiwari accused the Shiela Dikshit-led Congress government and the Kejriwal dispensation of not making efforts to increase in the number of buses in the city, saying in the last six years, the need for buses in Delhi has increased to 11,000.

The Delhi government is going to procure 2,000 buses to be run under the DTC and the Cluster scheme. “Even if Kejriwal government buys 2,000 buses over the next two years, Delhi will have hardly 3,000 buses running on the road as by that time twothird of the existing fleet would have to shelved,” Tiwari claimed. DTC has a fleet of around 4,000 buses, while around 2,200 buses runs on the city roads under the cluster scheme. PTI
