THE CORPORATION WILL DIVIDE THE PROPERTIES INTO RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL CATEGORIES

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation is going to start door-to-door survey of all properties under its jurisdiction from September 1. The exercise aims to find out the total properties that fall under the tax net and their floor area ratio.

The exercise will be completed before the end of the financial year 2017-18 and the corporation will divide the properties into residential and commercial categories.

A unique property identification code will be issued to them after that, said the official.

The data collected will be immediately digitised. “The procedure will make it easier to collect tax from those who are evading their responsibility despite using basic amenities that are being provided in these colonies,” said the SDMC official.

The corporation has been successful in bringing 400,000 properties under the tax net. But as per primary information shared by Geospatial Delhi Limited there are 1500,000 properties under SDMC’s jurisdiction.

To verify the data, it has approved the proposal to engage private staff.

It would include one inspector and two supporting staff for each ward.

In comparison to its counterparts, the SDMC is doing well financially and achieved its target to collect ₹775 crore from property tax in 20116-17. However, to further increase its collection, SDMC is taking various measures.
