A woman journalist was molested during a youth Congress rally at Jantar Mantar on Thursday. She shared her ordeal in a tweet, which was shared over 1,500 times. Later in the day, she also approached the police and registered an FIR.

“I was in the crowd within metres of senior parliamentarians, who were at the stage. At around 1.30 pm, somebody groped me from behind. When I turned back, there was no one. There were at least 700-800 people,” she told Hindustan Times.

The woman, who works with a news channel, said at 3.30 pm, she decided the inform the police and register a complaint.

“I approached the police and told them about it. One of the officers said it would be difficult to identify the person in the crowd. I was shocked by his response. I asked them to check the CCTV footage,” she said, adding that though no police officer had spoken to her, she received calls from many youth Congress leaders who condemned the incident.

A senior police officer said they were scanning CCTV footage from the area and have also asked photographers and camera persons, who were covering the protest, to share their videos.

NSUI national spokesperson Ambrish Kumar Pandey said, “We condemn it. Our president also spoke to her and assured her of our support. We called up the SHO and demanded stern action. If any party worker is involved, we will not spare him.”
