The 20-year-old woman who was allegedly raped and thrown off the fourth floor of an under-construction building at Begampur in outer Delhi is critical, doctors said.

“The victim is on life support. Her condition has improved marginally, but she is still not out of danger. A team of doctors, including those from gynaecology and neurosurgery departments, are monitoring and treating her,” said Dr Puneeta Mahajan, medical director of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.

“Police are yet to record the victim’s statement as her condition is still critical. She has suffered severe head injuries,” said Dr Mahajan.

The young woman’s father told reporters outside the hospital that his daughter was raped and demanded the accused not be given bail. “He tricked my daughter into going inside the building. Eyewitnesses told us that my daughter was thrown off the building within minutes of being forcibly taken up the fourth floor of the building,” said the young survivor’s father.

Police have arrested the alleged rapist, a 24-year-old man, who works at a five-star hotel, for allegedly raping the victim and pushing her off the building. The victim works as an assistant chef at another hotel. The two knew each other from working at the same hotel.

Police said they would file a chargesheet against the accused within a month and may add more sections once the woman recovers and records her statement.
