police have begun investigation into the mysterious death of a youth from Manipur who fell off a building in Hauz Khas village on Saturday.

Officials said Sidharth, 18,son of Manipur’s former home minister, had gone to the building alone and was dropped at the entrance of the Hauz Khas village by his driver. Sidharth, who had come to the city a few months ago, was the son of former home and education minister M Okendru.

The management of two restaurants in the building denied the teenager had gone there. On Monday, police questioned employees, who said none of Sidharth’s friends were inside the restaurant.

A police officer said CCTV footage recovered from spot showed Sidharth had gone alone to the building alone and directly went to the terrace. He reportedly left his cell phone, spectacles and wallet on the stairs before climbing to the second floor. Though it is unclear how he fell off the balcony, Sidharth was spotted by a parking attendant lying unconscious on the ground .

The first information report notes the doctor’s observation that the teenager was under the influence of alcohol.

“As of now we have no evidence to suspect foul play. It is possible the teenager wanted to puke and climbed the balcony. He may have fallen off the building while trying to puke. We are scanning CCTV footage to check if he had eaten or drank in any of the bars before the fall. The railing on the second floor is not very high. We are probing all angles,” said a senior police officer.

The teenager’s sister in her complaint alleged foul play.
