BOLT TO PLAY FOR MAN UNITED IN A CHARITY MATCH
Bolt may not have finished his glorious career in the manner he wanted, but the eight-time Olympic champion has now turned his focus to professional football.
In an interview to British daily The Sun, Bolt expressed his desire to play the world’s most popular game, saying: “I’ve always said that I wanted to play football because it’s something I think I’ll be good at. But right now, after pulling my hamstring, I’m not really worried about that at this moment.”
The 30-year-old called time on his career after being unable to finish the 4x100m relay for Jamaica at the IAAF World Championships due to a hamstring injury. Bolt has been a lifelong fan of Manchester United and hopes to be fit in time to play in a legends match for the Premier League club against Barcelona at Old Trafford on September 2.
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has previously revealed that he wants manager Jose Mourinho to sign Bolt for the ‘Red Devils’, but no official statement was issued from the club.
However, Bolt’s agent Ricky Simms is not planning such a huge move for the sprinter and believes that the celebrated athlete is good enough to play for any second-division side in England.
“Can a sprinter who is 30-years-old play in the Bundesliga or the Premier League? Realistically that is a step too far. If he had six or nine months playing and training with a team then he could play at some level whether that is League One or League Two,” said Simms.
