Zoo to provide free prams for toddlers
Parents visiting the Delhi zoo with their toddlers will not have to carry their little ones any more while hopping from one enclosure to the other.
The National Zoological Park in New Delhi on Wednesday launched perambulator services for parents visiting the zoo with toddlers. The service will be provided free of cost on a first-comefirst-serve basis.“I have been seeing parents carrying their toddlers in the zoo. So we decided to launch this service. To start with, we have introduced 10 perambulators,” said Renu Singh, director of the Delhi Zoo.
Soon after the service was launched, at least four perambulators were booked by visitors who had come to the zoo with toddlers. Officials said that the number of perambulators would be increased if the demand rises.
Zoo authorities are also planning to come up with a visitor’s room to provide some resting space for elderly citizens, differently-abled persons and lactating-mothers. “We are planning to make some special arrangements like a furnished waiting room for the lactating mothers who often come with their children and need some secluded areas,” said Singh.
A few other zoos in India, including Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha and Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Tamil Nadu, have already introduced such services. Nandankanan Zoo has also introduced wheel-chair services for differently-abled visitors.
